Bill and Patricia O’Brien bought Brady Family from Ossie and Mary Brady in 2000 when they decided to retire from the business. The O’Brien’s inherited a very strong and capable workforce of 18 members of staff, that number has now grown to over 500 over the years and continues to grow steadily. Brady Family was a bulk ham only available at the deli counter.
After a year in Business Brady Family gained listings in Ireland’s largest supermarket chains.
Brady Family launched the prepacked sliced business enjoyed by thousands of Irish families today. This made the traditional, quality taste of Brady Family available for more Irish homes to enjoy.
In 2006, Brady Family was the first ham company to receive Bord Bia Quality Assurance.
O’Brien Fine Foods won a number of tenders that same year and began producing own label products due to significant space capacity and the knowledge base of the business. This new business helped the company to grow, and in 2010 the new slicing facility was commissioned.
Brady Family becomes available in all leading retailers.
Brady Family becomes a premium focused product, a new campaign “I HAM” is launched to the public.
Brady Family becomes a sponsor for Co. Kildare. As a family business there has always been a strong desire by the O’Brien Family to support the local community by offering local employment and through supporting the county team.
The name O’Brien Fine Foods becomes the official title of the business. This came as the business began to produce more and more products for private label retailers and allowed for clear differentiation between own label and branded business.
John O’Brien was appointed Managing Director in the latter part of 2013 when his father Bill decided it was time to take a step back from the day-to-day running of the business. He is however still very much involved in the company, holding the position of Chairman of O’Brien Fine Foods.
Brady Family officially became approved members of Origin Green. Origin Green is the worlds’ only national food and drink sustainability programme, enabling the industry to set and achieve measurable sustainability targets that respect the environment and serve local communities more effectively. By becoming a member of this programme, the company’s efforts and dedication to improving sustainability practices was recognised.
O’Brien Fine Foods continues to grow each year and in 2016 the company expanded the facility with an 8,000sqm expansion.
In 2017 O’Brien Fine Foods launched Homebird. The first brand in cooked sliced meats to use 100% Irish chicken and turkey.
Brady Family enters the Top 50 FMCG Irish Brands for the first time.
Brady Family sponsors Barretstown “Big Picnic”. Barretstown offers free, specially designed camps and programmes for children and their families living with a serious illness.
Brady Family becomes number 1 in the Prepacked Sliced Cooked Meats Category in the Checkout Top 100 Brands.
Green Farm is the number one Irish white meats brand in Ireland and became part of the O’Brien Fine Foods portfolio in 2019.
O’Brien Fine Foods partnered with Food Cloud as part of its mission to be more sustainable and eco conscious. Food Cloud partners companies such as O’Brien Fine Foods with organisations and charities that are combatting food waste in an effective way.
Green Farm begins sponsoring the National Radio Station RTE 2FM Game On programme. Game On is dedicated sports radio show that is centred around health, performance, and wellbeing, much like the brand.
